Introduction:
The Canon EOS R6 is a full-frame mirrorless camera that made its debut in 2020. Designed for both professional photographers and serious enthusiasts, it has been hailed as a versatile and powerful tool for capturing high-quality images and video. In this review, we will delve into the features, performance, and user experience of the Canon EOS R6, providing a comprehensive analysis of this remarkable camera.
Design and Build Quality:
At first glance, the Canon EOS R6 looks very similar to its sibling, the EOS R5. It features a robust and weather-sealed magnesium alloy body that can withstand the rigors of professional use. Weighing approximately 680g (body only), the EOS R6 is relatively lightweight and compact for a full-frame camera, making it an excellent choice for those who need to travel or shoot for extended periods.
The ergonomics of the R6 are also impressive. The deep grip ensures comfortable and secure handling, while the button layout is intuitive and customizable, allowing photographers to access key settings quickly and efficiently. The flip-out, fully-articulating touchscreen is a welcome feature for both stills and video shooting, offering flexibility in composing shots from various angles and facilitating easy menu navigation.
Image Sensor and Processor:
The Canon EOS R6 is equipped with a 20.1-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor, which is the same as the one used in the flagship Canon 1DX Mark III. It is paired with the latest DIGIC X image processor, which significantly enhances the camera's performance in terms of speed, image quality, and low-light capabilities.
One of the standout features of the R6 is its impressive ISO range of 100-102,400, expandable to 204,800. This enables the camera to perform exceptionally well in low-light conditions, with minimal noise and excellent detail retention.
Autofocus and Image Stabilization:
Canon has outdone itself with the EOS R6's autofocus (AF) system. Boasting a Dual Pixel CMOS AF II, the camera has 1,053 automatically selectable AF zones that cover approximately 100% of the frame vertically and 90% horizontally. The AF system is also incredibly fast, with the ability to focus in as little as 0.05 seconds.
One of the most talked-about features of the R6 is its animal and human eye detection, which works remarkably well in both stills and video modes. The accuracy and speed of the eye-tracking make capturing sharp images of moving subjects a breeze.
Another significant advantage of the EOS R6 is its in-body image stabilization (IBIS), which compensates for up to 8 stops of camera shake. When paired with compatible RF lenses, the IBIS system allows for much slower shutter speeds, expanding the possibilities for handheld shooting in low light or capturing sharp images of fast-moving subjects.
Image Quality:
The Canon EOS R6 delivers exceptional image quality, with accurate colors and a wide dynamic range. The 20.1-megapixel sensor may not offer the highest resolution in its class, but the detail and sharpness of the images are impressive. This lower resolution also contributes to the R6's excellent low-light performance, as the larger pixels can gather more light, resulting in better signal-to-noise ratios.
JPEGs straight out of the camera look fantastic, with pleasing colors and contrast. However, for those who want more control over the final image, the R6's RAW files offer a great deal of latitude for post-processing.
Video Capabilities:
The Canon EOS R6 boasts impressive video capabilities that cater to a wide range of videographers, from enthusiasts to professionals. Here are some of the standout features:
4K UHD Recording: The R6 can record 4K UHD video at up to 60fps, using the full width of the sensor without any crop factor. Its Dual Pixel CMOS AF II is fast, accurate, and reliable, providing smooth focus transitions and maintaining focus on subjects even as they move within the frame. The camera's eye and face detection capabilities extend to video mode as well, ensuring that subjects remain sharply in focus throughout the recording.
In-body Image Stabilization: The R6's in-body image stabilization (IBIS) is a game-changer for handheld video shooting. With up to 8 stops of stabilization, the R6 effectively compensates for camera shake, allowing for smooth and stable footage even when shooting without a tripod or gimbal. This feature is particularly beneficial for videographers who need to capture footage on the go or in challenging environments.
Dual Card Slots: The R6 features dual SD card slots, both of which support UHS-II, allowing for simultaneous or sequential recording of video files. This redundancy feature ensures that you have a backup of your footage and can keep recording even when one card is full.
Audio Capabilities: The camera provides a 3.5mm microphone input for connecting external microphones, improving audio quality and versatility during video recording. Additionally, a headphone jack is available for monitoring audio levels, ensuring that your audio is captured as intended.
Overheating Concerns: One concern that has been raised about the EOS R6's video capabilities is its potential for overheating during extended 4K video recording sessions. Canon has acknowledged this issue and released firmware updates to address it, but it's important to be aware of potential limitations if you plan on using the R6 for long-duration 4K video shoots.
In summary, the Canon EOS R6 offers a comprehensive suite of video features that cater to a wide range of videography needs. From its high-resolution 4K UHD recording and impressive autofocus system to its in-body image stabilization and audio capabilities, the R6 is a formidable tool for capturing high-quality video content.

Image Performance Of Canon 80d
The first thing we noticed about the Canon 80D is that it can be used in a wide range of situations. When we talk about wide range, we’re speaking about focus points and not just the type of photography. While shooting a picture of a bridge at f/16 and at an ISO of 200 with a basic lens, it was surprising to see that the picture of the bridge we took did create a Bokeh from the point light sources in the frame, usually, this is effect is achieved at an f-stop of 2 and below. Canon 80d is preferable for professional photography.
The dynamic range (DR) of the Canon 80D has been scaled up for better performance and the camera does a fantastic job at capturing stills. Photographers who love to track moving objects will be thrilled with the fact that they can now select the AI Servo in live mode; this was not the case in the previous EOS camera. Focus has also improved. On the Canon 80D, we found that the newly developed autofocus module that can be found with the viewfinder is a huge upgrade and makes focusing much easier. Auto Focus points have increased to 47 from the 19 that was available on the Canon 70D. The Canon 80D comes with two separate sensors, one is a viewfinder-based AF system for stills and the other is a specially designed on-sensor AF system for live view and video.
Speaking of video, it seems like the Canon care catering to videographers with the 80D. They’ve scaled the features to offer better and sharper video quality. Although it cannot film in 4K, the Canon 80D does offer 1080/60p capture and continuous autofocus during video, enhancing the video quality and offering much better performance than its predecessor.
Clarity has improved on the Canon 80D. Picture sharpness seems better than the 70D. That being said, sharpness still depends on skills, light and the lens you use. On the 80D, Canon has taken a step backwards and gone to the trusted DIGIC 6 image processor and not DIGIC 7 image processor on the 70D. Canon has also bumped up image quality on the 80D by introducing a better range of tones.
